Large conferences like TAM are very expensive to produce, and as a result, registration fees may be unaffordable for some people, especially for students or for those with more limited incomes. Even though the JREF offers a number of discounted registration options this year, making this TAM more affordable than ever, registration may still be out of reach for some.

We are happy to announce that due to several generous individuals who have partnered with the JREF to organize various grant programs to help those who need financial assistance to attend The Amaz!ng Meeting 2014, dozens of people will be able to come to TAM this year who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend. These grants apply directly to the TAM registration fee in order to cover full registration. The grants do not cover airfare, hotel, or other expenses, including additional add-on events at TAM.

Here is information about how support this year’s grant programs, as well as how to apply:

TAM Educator Grants. The Amazing Meeting is a great place for educators to meet and network with other educators, get educational resources (including printed copies of the JREF’s education modules for classroom use), pick up tips, and be inspired. Help us inspire and energize educators who want to bring more skepticism and critical thinking into their classroom, by covering all or part of the registration fee for teachers who otherwise would not be able to come to TAM.

JREF Forum Grants. This longstanding grant program is the result of a grassroots effort by several caring members of the JREF Forum online community who didn’t want money to be a barrier to those who are passionate about the mission of the JREF. More information on applying can be found on the JREF Forum.

We’ve heard from countless people what a life changing experience attending TAM can be. Your support of the the JREF Forum Grant program or the Educator Grant program will help give that experience to those who could not otherwise afford to attend. Please support these important efforts today, and see you at TAM 2014!

TAM 2014 needs your help! We are seeking a number of volunteers to help support the event, whether with speaker support, registration, event management, PR, merchandizing, outreach, tabling, or other opportunities. By volunteering, you help keep the price of TAM down for everyone.

As a small nonprofit organization, the JREF greatly appreciates the generous support of its many volunteers. Unfortunately, we cannot fund any part of your travel, lodging, or conference registration. Volunteers will receive special “TAM 2014 Volunteer” t-shirts, as well as being invited to a private volunteer appreciation luncheon featuring James Randi.

Thank you for helping make TAM 2014 a success, and for supporting the JREF’s important work!

Following our now twelve year tradition, The James Randi Educational Foundation will once again invite proposals for short (15 minute) presentations on Sunday, July 13 during The Amazing Meeting 2014.

The Sunday Morning Papers session of TAM was established to recognize new voices and ideas and to shine on them the spotlight of the TAM community. If you have had success in communicating scientific skepticism, teaching critical thinking, combating pseudoscience, or furthering the mission of the JREF in some new and significant way, we want to hear from you!

Anyone may submit a request to present a paper. If your proposal is accepted you will be allotted 10 to 15 minutes for your presentation and an additional 5 minutes for questions and comments from the audience. Invitations to present will be giving to approximately six proposals. If your proposal is selected for further consideration, a written article and draft of your presentation slides will be required for final consideration. Please see the process of selection schedule below for further details.
