Large conferences like TAM are very expensive to produce, and as a result registration fees may be unaffordable for some, especially students. While JREF offers a discounted registration to students and JREF members (below JREF’s actual costs, in some cases), some people may still not be able to afford to attend.
We are happy to announce that due to several generous individuals who have partnered with the JREF to organize various grant programs to help those who need financial assistance to attend The Amaz!ng Meeting 2013, dozens of people will be able to come to TAM this year who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend. These grants apply directly to the TAM registration fee in order to cover full registration. The grants do not cover airfare, hotel, or other expenses, inlcuding additional add-on events at TAM.
Here is information about how support this year’s grant programs, as well as how to apply:
Contribute to the the TAM 2013 Educator Grant Fund TAM Educator Grants. The Amazing Meeting is a great place for educators to meet and network with other educators, get educational resources (including printed copies of the JREF’s education modules for classroom use), pick up tips, and be inspired. Help us inspire and engergize educators who want to bring more skepticism and critical thinking into their classroom, by covering all or part of the registration fee for teachers who otherwise would not be able to come to TAM.
More information on TAM Educator Grants and how to apply can be found here ≫
Contribute to the the TAM 2013 JREF Forum Grant Fund JREF Forum Grants. This longstanding grant program is the result of a grassroots effort by several caring members of the JREF Forum online community who didn’t want money to be a barrier to those who are passionate about the mission of the JREF. More information on applying can be found on the JREF Forum.

TAM 2013 Rising Star Grant. The Rising Star Grant aims to send young adults, ages 18-30, to the Amaz!ng Meeting 2013. The goal of the grant is to find young individuals who have an interest in skepticism and have the potential to contribute new talent to skeptical communities. Grant winners should demonstrate outstanding work in their field and/or talents valuable to the promotion of scientific skepticism.

Please support these important efforts today, and see you at TAM 2013!
Like other large conferences, TAM is very expensive to produce and as a small nonprofit the JREF needs your help. We are currently seeking volunteers for TAM 2013 to help support the event and keep event staffing costs and other overhead down.
JREF greatly appreciates your volunteer participation, but unfortunately cannot fund any part of your travel, lodging, or conference registration. Volunteers will receive special volunteer t-shirts as well as be treated to a volunteer appreciation luncheon.
Sign up to Volunteer Thank you for helping make TAM 2013 happen and supporting the JREF’s important work! Questions can be sent to TAM@randi.org.
Following our now ten year tradition, the James Randi Educational Foundation will once again invite proposals for short (15 minute) presentations on the Sunday morning of The Amazing Meeting in July.
The Sunday Morning Papers session of TAM was established to recognize new voices and ideas and shine on them the spotlight of the TAM community. If you have had success in communicating rational skepticism, teaching critical thinking, combating pseudoscience, or furthering the mission of JREF in some new and significant way, we want to hear from you!
Anyone may submit a request to present a paper. If your proposal is accepted you will be allotted 10 to 15 minutes for your presentation and an additional 5 minutes for questions and comments from the audience. Invitations to present will be giving to approximately six proposals. If your proposal is selected for further consideration, a written article and draft of your presentation slides will be required for final consideration. Please see the process of selection schedule below for further details.
